The Dept. of Industrial Relations and Personnel Management is organizing Professor Gopal Chandra Rath Memorial Lecture in honour of Prof. Gopal Chandra Rath, former Professor & Head, Post-Graduate Dept. of Industrial Relations and Personnel Management, Berhampur University. Having graduated from Cornell University of the United States of America, Prof. Rath started his career as a personnel executive in Kalinga Tubes, Choudwar, Odisha. Subsequently, when Berhampur University opened the Department of Labour and Social Welfare in 1967 (later renamed as Industrial Relations and Personnel Management), he took the stewardship of running the course as the Head of the Department.
Both as a professional and as an academician, his sole objective was to groom the students as per the requirements of the industrial organizations and government agencies. Prof. Rath retired from the university services in May 1992 and was staying at his native place at Cuttack. Until his death he was actively involved in academics with the academic activities of the Department of Industrial Relations and Personnel Management. He expired on 9 February 2013.
